Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced the project during his visit to Silchar in August and had laid utmost emphasis on the need for an elevated corridor that needs to be provided urgently to the sinking zone of Tarapur Shivbari Road. As the monsoon season is approaching, work has finally started after the land pujan ceremony was done headed by MLA Dipayan Chakraborty. That marked the beginning of test piling.

Work on 210-meter elevated corridor has already started in September. MLA assured that the project would be done by next year. However, he further emphasized that the condition of the road here is pretty old, mainly due to river erosion. Locals have brought the issue to the notice of the authorities on several instances and called upon the higher authorities to pay heed. It was during the official visit to the region amidst the current year's floods that the Minister Piyush Hazarika called for tackling these long-pending problems.

After a detailed survey, engineers gave their verdict that an elevated corridor is the workable solution to solve all these problems. Subsequently, the Chief Minister again stressed his commitment to the construction of the corridor. Aniruddha Naga of Public Works Department divulged that the government has sanctioned ₹57 crore for this 210-meter elevated road. Construction started on 5th September and it has been awarded to High-Tech Construction.

The foundation work is currently in progress and will soon be followed by piling. A total of 600 micro piles will be installed, and the work on the foundation pillars will start at these locations. There will be piling at 90 locations, and brick pillars will be constructed on these piles. As the land is prone to river erosion, the foundations will be made so as to have withstood the river currents. After the laying down of the RCC slabs, a road of 210 meters length and 12 meters width with 8 meters as roadway and 1.5 meter footpath.
This is surely going to offer a better connectivity arrangement that would increase their living standards and develop a better life for the people of the Barak region.
